Culture - Transfer - Dialogue

Introduction

Intercultural exchange is indispensable not only in times of political crises: Russia and Germany, art, theatre, literature, film, exhibitions, science...

This year, the Zwetajewa Centre for Russian Culture at the University of Freiburg e.V., together with the Cultural Office of the City of Freiburg and numerous cultural institutions, is once again offering brilliant weeks of German-Russian dialogue. This time, the International Research Training Group 1956 "Cultural Transfer and 'Cultural Identity' - German-Russian Contacts in the European Context" at the University of Freiburg will play a major role in shaping the Cultural Days.

The Freiburg Russian Culture Days 2019 focus on themes that move: From the fate of a Russian novel in Germany (Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita") to real-life encounters with a young Petersburg dance group to classics of film ("Doctor Zhivago"), stirring documentaries (for example about Stalin's show trials), readings by contemporary authors (for example by Gusel Jachina, who caused a very big stir with her historical debut novel and is now presenting her new book about Volga Germans), contemporary art, events for children and, last but not least, music.

One of the thematic focuses is the period of the 1920s and 1930s. The Russian Culture Days 2019 thus also follow on from the events on the theme of the "Russian Revolution", which was the focus two years ago.
