About the Tsvetaeva Centre
The "Zwetajewa-Zentrum an der Universität Freiburg e.V." is a cultural institution dedicated to the mediation of Eastern European cultures to Germany and the mediation of German culture to East Europe. (See Statutes (in German))
The Tsvetaeva Centre was founded in 2016 on the initiative of the City of Freiburg, the University of Freiburg and personalities closely associated with Eastern European countries.
The name refers to the Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva (1892–1941), who lived in Freiburg for a long time at the beginning of the 20th century and was also closely connected to Germany in her literary work. Tsvetaeva lived and worked in several European countries, her life was influenced by war, revolution and emigration experiences. Today, a memorial plaque in Wallstraße (Freiburg) commemorates the great poet and a street in the Freiburg-Rieselfeld is also named after Tsvetaeva.
The Tsvetaeva Centre, which has so far concentrated its work primarily on the Russian cultural area, has repositioned itself in several ways after Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, which violated international law. In January 2023, for example, the original name of the association was modified and the purpose of the association was redefined.
In cooperation with the Cultural Office of the City of Freiburg, university institutions as well as other cultural institutions of the city and the Upper Rhine region, lecture series, exhibitions (especially exhibition films), readings, etc. are offered.
The Tsvetaeva Centre is deeply dismayed and appalled by the criminal invasion of Ukraine ordered by the Russian government and Putin.
We strongly condemn the actions and atrocities of the Russian troops in this war against Ukraine, against freedom and democracy, which is contrary to international law.
We feel for the victims of this war. The donations from our events will be donated to the Ukraine Aid of the University Hospital Freiburg in order to alleviate the bitter fate of the victims of this war at least a little. Veranstaltungen werden wir der Ukraine-Hilfe der Uniklinik Freiburg zukommen lassen, um das bittere Los der Opfer dieses Krieges wenigstens etwas zu mildern.
Culture against war!
Culture for peace!
